NATURAL VITAL SUBSTANCES: A HEALTHY SLEEP IS SOMETHING WONDERFUL

Many people know the problem that body and mind do not want to rest, they toss and turn through the night and wake up every hour. Energy and quality of life suffer as a result.

The Greek poet Sophocles wrote almost 2500 years ago: "Sleep, to pain, sleep of sorrow, / Strange, near with sweet breath to us, / Happiness-giver, come happiness-giving God! / Up, spread the eyelash-dawning night / Over the eye all around. / Come healing, God, come quickly." The poet already knew in the fifth century before Christ: "A healthy sleep is something wonderful and an important criterion for our mental and physical well-being. People who sleep well are fitter and more efficient and are bursting with energy the next morning, and they are also much better able to recover from stress and illness," says Natura Vitalis founder Frank Felte (www.naturavitalis.de). The company from Essen has long been considered one of the leading manufacturers of natural food supplements and places the highest value on continuous further and new developments of health products on a scientific basis.

But: Many people know the problem that body and mind do not want to rest, they toss and turn through the night and wake up every hour. The next day they feel tired and exhausted, far from being able to perform and far from enjoying their work and private life. "Today we know from numerous scientific studies that sleep is vital for the body and the psyche - long-lasting sleep disorders lead to health and also psychological disorders. Sleeping is not an annoying time-waster that only interrupts the day's work senselessly, but the basis for a healthy body and a healthy mind," emphasises Frank Felte.

The health expert knows: "Only one hormone is needed to sleep well at night, melatonin. It is produced in the pineal gland. When it gets dark, the pea-sized organ in the brain sends a lot of melatonin into the blood. We yawn and the body says it's time to sleep." A lack of melatonin, on the other hand, ensures that this effect does not occur to the desired extent. Therefore, the Natura Vitalis founder advises a few tricks, such as no longer consuming caffeine in the evening, refraining from screen activities before bedtime and generally banning alcohol and cigarettes from one's life.

Various natural vital substances could also help to combat poor sleep. Frank Felte mentions valerian and lemon balm, for example. Laboratory experiments have shown that the active substances of the valerian plant interact with special messenger substances and sleep-promoting substances in the brain. Valerian is one of the most popular herbal remedies, especially for mild sleep disorders. Frank Felte advises: "With valerian, for example, 400 to 600 milligrams of dry extract spread over the day is recommended. Half of the dose should be taken about half an hour before going to bed. Valerian works best in high doses for problems sleeping through the night. Other herbal preparations do not lead to the desired result."

If you want to ensure that the hormone melatonin, which is important for falling asleep, is available in sufficient quantities, you should give your body enough of the necessary raw material L-tryptophan: This is a so-called essential amino acid that our body cannot produce itself, but must be supplied through food. By the way, there is often a reason behind insomnia. If people suffer from anxiety, St. John's wort, for example, can be used. For anxious, inner restlessness, a new herbal medicine with patented lavender oil is recommended, which does not make you tired during the day and has no habituation effect. Everyday anxieties become less, it is possible to relax again. Longer proven in this respect is the passion flower, best highly concentrated.
